Biochemical Pharmacology and Drug Design

Our department uses a state-of-the-art and highly efficient technological platform for drug design. It is not only applied to screening and evaluation of biological activity, but also for estimation of diverse pharmacological parameters of new chemical entities and natural compounds. We aim at the development of innovative therapeutic and diagnostic agents. The research activities of the Department spans across the following main topics: target-directed synthesis and characterization of biologically active molecules; Design and synthesis of molecular probes – new hybrid structures or precursors for radiolabeling with subsequent biological and diagnostic applications; Development of prodrugs – modified molecules with improved bioavailability and reduced risk of toxicity.
